In 2015, the idea of the glass beer dispenser was born. More precisely, the Taptube system was a fortunate “by-product” of the development of a glass beer brewing system, the implementation of which was based on the idea of Gerhard Hochmuth and Bernd Weinmayer, with expert advice from master brewer Robert Prinz. The aim was to make greater use of borosilicate glass, with its ingenious chemical and physical properties, outside of established laboratory applications. The good mechanical resistance and almost unlimited formability of liquid glass at 1600°C allow endless design variations. The sterile, crystal-clear borosilicate glass meets unprecedented hygiene standards thanks to maximum transparency.

However, using beer, with its myriad amber hues, as a fiber optics was the main impetus for me as a lighting designer for this project. The indirectly, with LED white light, irradiated beverage, flows through an approx. 10m long glass spiral, which can be cooled individually by means of water and thus does not need any further barrel cooling.

After numerous prototypes, breakage tests, patent protection, careful selection of suppliers from the region and the establishment of a reliable distribution partner network, small series production of the Taptube L could begin in 2018. The Taptube range was supplemented by two glass tap handle types with an ever-increasing number of infused, natural ingredients. In 2020, the Taptube family was expanded with the slightly smaller Taptube S and the double-barrel Taptube Twin. More detailed information about the Taptube system, including all technical data sheets, can be found at:
